[AMSTRAD CPC] 🚀 Alcon 2020 (25fps Final Version!) - Longplay ⭐️ (Now out for free digital download!)

Longplay for "Alcon 2020" (the 25fps version!) on the Amstrad CPC!
It's finally here for everyone! The 25fps final version of Alcon 2020 has now been released as a free digital download so you all can experience and enjoy it! This stunning remake of Slap Fight (also known as Alcon) for the Amstrad from Abalore Games originally arrived 3 years ago, but it played a little slower (at 17fps) and that was the only version you could download. Some big improvements were made including upping the speed and frame rate to a silky smooth 25fps, and a physical edition was released of that in very limited numbers just over 12 months ago. ...

[AMSTRAD CPC] Viz : The Game - Longplay & Review
Impressive. It reminds me a little of Soldier Blade from the PC Engine/Turbo Grafx 16.
9 years ago this dude upload this game, but then hatred release everybody think its the most voilent game evermade, this game has severed boobs cant get more voilent than that lol
Beautiful game, but seems way too easy...?
The magazines from uk to Australia wow the 80s
Wow the sounds are 80s with a now twist nice new school 😂❤
10/10 sets the standard😊
Thanks for uploading this man it brings back memories absolutely loved this game.
There are a number of AMSOFT titles that we worship (due to the fact there were no others to compare to, back in the day) and this one was one of them. It is a shame this was not a part of the "464/6128 - 12 Great Games" bundle... but I feel that was because Amstrad wanted people to pay the £8.95 for this, instead!
Thank you @xyphoe for another amazing playthrough, and congratulations to the team on the amazing work with this game! I am dying to find out more on the technical aspects of how the team has managed to achieve this on our beloved CPCs.
Thank you Mirko!! Glad you enjoyed this, and who knows maybe one day maybe the secrets will be shared!
ZTB Zap the Badstars. Think thats what it said in the reviews....
This game is absolutely incredible...😲 It really is amazing to see what the Amstrad hardware is truly capable of. 🤓
Glad you enjoyed it mate! One of the best Amstrad productions in recent years for sure!
Fantastic CPC action! I hope you are well and kicking my old friend Xyphoe
It is indeed! I'm good my friend! I hope you are too - good to hear from you again!
Such a fantastic port. For some reason I missed the call for the physical carts so hopefully I can get this to run on the M4. I'm also hoping that someone will use Abalore's engine to convert Tiger Heli one day!
You never know!! Here's hoping! That's a very solid game engine, shame if it wasn't re-used again...
@@Xyphoe is the game engine released yet? I saw some discussions about it but I haven't seen a release yet.
@@eto6197 I don't know where those discussions were, but I've not heard or seen anything about the engine being released to the public to be used for their own games to my knowledge.
Very very hard to believe such a technical achievement on the amstrad cpc with such speed ,no music slow down,no glitching just amazing.i remember having same feeling when I played the disc version of chase hq all those many years ago,sat there expecting something terrible and was simply blown away. Happy days
It does help a lot having the extra space capacity on the cart of course, but let's not underplay the achievement here yes - amazing what Abalore and TotO have done here! This is as close to the coin-op you're going to get on the CPC! And you know I love Chase HQ to bits but that didn't try to compete and come close the arcade, it went it's own way somewhat and played to the CPC's strengths and was a much better game for it.
Love this game! Absolute treat to play on cartridge with the extra audio.
Awesome! I need to get the Play2CPC myself!!!
I looked online to see the various reactions and seems alot of C64 fanboys seemed a bit brown nosed.
Don't worry they have Chase HQ and Hard Drivin' to keep them happy
They've got Zeta Wing 2 to cheer themselves up with
@@AnthonyFlack yes that is AWESOME!
@@Xyphoe the cpc version wasn't much better, but chase hq on cpc is like night and day
Very impressive!
Thanks Swainy! The Amstrad definitely needs more remakes of this quality!
Really nice! So much fluidity, almost too fast perhaps 😅 And what about your performance? Aceing the game without a life lost? That's Xyphoe for you! Sir Sugar says: Give that man his weight in bananas!
Yes it's now got the speed of the arcade original!! And thank you!! Don't ask me to repeat this again, can't tell you how many hours / days it took me ... but you almost *have* to do it one one life because you need to keep hold of the homing missiles and max speed especially by the turret nightmare of Area 57 onwards...
@@Xyphoe Yeah! Although shoot 'em ups are my favourite type of game, got to admit that some of them were ridiculously difficult... Raiden... FFS!
Brilliant game. I play the aecade version on the evercade but this looks so much better
Awesome Brian! I'm not sure this exceeds the arcade original but it comes very close to it! Does the Amstrad very proud indeed!
The arcade version colour does look washed out and a bit dull in comparison to this version
Such a fantastic game. And well worth owning the physical copy. Too sad the Play2CPC extension isn't used by any other games. Not only makes it cartridges available for the normal CPC, it also adds the 6 channel sound support - (and even more if it's ever documented ever...)
Agreed my friend! But what it will allow is for game developers to make physical release games onto cartridge that will run on stock CPC machines (Vespertino anyone?), recently we've seen how easy now it's been to make GX4000 carts ("Oh Chute!", etc) so now there's hope. But yes, it's shame that no other games have been doing 6 channel audio.
Whilst browsing watching longplays an dam all those years ago i see you did a speed run on this yes wow👍💎 This i think one the greatest arcade football games maybe the best that been in the arcade😊 Im not a fan of football never liked football but way this game was well done made makes it enjoyable Music great an the action is spotless without flaws I see you chose England now that was the right way to do it thats the way close on some rounds 1 second left an got a goal awesome. Yes here England didnt just win the world cup here they won the Tecmo Cup...now that is awesome..good speedrun👍
Yesss it was my all time favourite!! My go to game in the arcades as a kid! Wish I still could!
This is an odd conversion. BTW the CPC did have hardware scrolling but it was really coarse (and if you used it, it made the screen memory addressing tricky) - I used it in Fly Spy but ignored it on later games I did. What's odd about this is how it's using mode0 (16 colors) but (a) the sprites aren't clipped on the screen edges (they just switch on/off when they touch the edge) (b) when two sprites are drawn on top of each other they 'erase' rectangular sections of each other (c) this game is using only 3 colors(+transparent) for the sprites and 4 for the backgrounds. (b) and (c) both imply something quirky is going on with the sprite drawing; essentially the four bits per pixel display (16 color) is being used with a palette hack to use two bits for sprites and two bits for the backgrounds. This kinda sorta makes sense IF there was a performance reason to do it (when drawing sprites) but... I can't think what it might be! You end up having to read each screen byte (two 4-bit pixels) and bitwise-OR the sprite pixels into it and then write it back. It's not really significantly quicker to do that... and you lose a hell of a lot of colors for the graphics you could otherwise use. I'm a bit puzzled. I guess it was an early era game... what I did on my later CPC games was to runlength encode (compress) the sprites which makes them take less ram but also - very usefully - lets you know in advance if you're going to be drawing fully transparent pixels (which you just skip of course), partially transparent (a byte containing one transparent and one solid pixel, which you need to mask with the background - but these are usually only on the edges of shapes), or fully solid pixels (e.g. the interior of a sprite) in which case you just write them to the display without any masking, which is fast. When the sprite is compressed into runs of transparent/partially-transparent/solid pixels your code gets to know in advance e.g. "next are 16 pixels, all solid" and so can use a highly optimized piece of code that doesn't have to do any further checks. Aaaanyway... blah
Oh wow this is an old review of mine. I can't remember now what I said in it, but my knowledge of the Amstrad's hardware scrolling capabilities has vastly increased since. And what you can do with that darn CRTC chip, and R3 / R5 registers, etc. Plus what a difficult beast it is to tame. The coder of this was Nigel 'Chucky Egg' Alderton, and I went looking for the interview where he briefly talked about his work on this game... but alas I can't find it now, but I vaguely remember him saying something along the lines of he was burnt out and on his way out the industry or something at the time, or just simply needing a long break. One of the two. He got the basic game engine up and running and was more fascinated by the 'slide scroll' he got going here, and kinda gave up after that. You can kinda tell that the rest of the game was phoned in a bit after that (levels from the arcade are missing, Arthur doesn't run around in his pants after getting hit, etc). Bit of a shame really, because the music is some of the best I've ever heard on the Amstrad from the always excellent David Whittaker and you've got Ste Pickford on graphics here too. Should have been a winning team.
I'll check this one out, looks fun!
Hey Trevor! You should do yea! No joystick waggling in this one lol! But great fun, one of Amsoft's best!
This was one of the games bundled with my CPC in 1984 as well. It's still one of my favourites.
Always fascinates me that people got different bundles with their 464, probably due to regional differences - you not being in the UK. Most UK 464 owners in the first year or two (1984/85) got the famous Amsoft 12-Pack. I think I got my 464 in late '86 or early/mid '87 so I got a different bunch of Amsoft games bundled, so yea - Quack A Jack was one of them. Thankfully no Bridge-It!!
Wow amazing i love it thankyou for this my Emperor 🎖🎖🎖🎖 I cant think of a more deserving game than this an how strong it was voted high in the live Amstream an thankyou so much to the amazing Paul Shirley 💎 He must of had a big brain storm this was genius idea Amazing history an how this was bundled with the Amstrad as well the lovly in house developer publisher AMSOFT An ive got to say it as its always stuck in my head 🎵🎶🎵🎶🎵🎶ohhhhhh Kevin the Prawn on a drinking sppprree🎶🎵🎶🎵🎶 Lovly presentation here the absolute best as always
Told ya you'd like this new video!! Glad you enjoyed matey, and yea this game deserves some more love!! Thanks again dude!!
Love it 😂😂😂❤❤❤ can't help but think there should be a vid or a stream purley dedicated to the best level names. The humour of those in jokes still makes me laugh
Haha absolutely! "Kevin The Prawn on a drinking spree!" always stuck in mind forever! (As Legion commented here already too!!)
Just watched Daley Thompson playing Daley Thompson decathlon on BBC documentary and him saying how he wished he'd got a £ for everyone that says it broke their keyboard/joystick because he'd be rich :)
C64 version much better
Great vid bro thanks for the sub - subbed - imagine some gamers playing this now they would be crying because there is no paint saying what to do and where to go next -how things change .
De toute beauté ! Bravo 👏
Excellent game 👏👏👏
I could ace everything except i never figured out the high jump ??
Great stream Xyphoe. A request for Sabre Wulf please. Many thanks!
Thank you! I'm sure we'll be doing another request section soon on an Amstream! Be there and we'll get Sabre Wulf in!
I remember I had a clone of this one, it was one of those magazine BASIC type-ins, and even poorer really , but it had its charm.
Excellent celebration of the classic machine. ❤
I reckon Daley Thompson must've had shares in joystick makers. I remember ruining so many on this game - must've been at least 4.
Asteric Magic Cauldron, Bob Morane...
I see people trying to selling bridge it on eBay. Ranges 99p to £8
So many strong choices here. I had so much fun with Gryzor and Ikari.. finished both. Destructo is indeed very good. Super addictive. Head over heels is just a masterpiece. I wish a I had the patience to finish it.
This reminded me of astro warrior on sega master system
